Man arrested after bomb hoax report in Lancing

Residents on Tower Road in Lancing have been told to leave their properties while officers deal with reports of a suspicious object. A security perimeter has been established.

One individual has been taken into custody.

Police comment

A spokesperson for Sussex Police stated that officers attended following a report of a suspicious item after receiving a call about a property in Lancing.

Emergency services were dispatched to the Tower Road location at approximately 2.30pm. A man has now been detained.

A safety zone extending 100 metres has been implemented, with certain residences within this radius requiring evacuation while specialists from the Explosives Ordnance Disposal team carry out examinations.

Officials indicated they are working to ensure minimal impact on locals and will share additional information once available.

One man remains in custody on suspicion of making false bomb claims.
