A27 eastbound overnight closures from April 13 for Greggs drive-thru works

Published on

A fresh Greggs drive-through outlet is set to open at a fuel station in East Sussex.

Contractors will carry out construction work at the Esso Rontec Service Station, requiring overnight closures on the eastbound carriageway of the A27.

The overnight restrictions, anticipated to begin on or after April 13, 2026, and extending for roughly one month, will affect the road segment between Falmer Interchange (B2123) and Ashcombe Roundabout (A277).

The closures are planned to occur between 8pm and 6am as the maximum timeframe, solely for the purpose of fitting and removing traffic management signage within the inside lane along with speed limit markers.

Every connecting slip road and side road linking to the A27 within this sector will additionally be shut during nighttime hours.

Lay-bys positioned alongside the carriageway will also face continuous 24-hour restrictions, while a reduced maximum speed of 50mph will apply throughout the impacted area.

The project will be executed by contractors acting for Landbuild.

These precautions aim to ensure driver and worker safety while survey, civil engineering and road surface operations proceed.

Vehicles will be redirected along the A27, A270, A23, A259 and A26 routes.

Throughout this interval, the standard 7.5 tonne maximum weight restriction will be provisionally suspended at Peacehaven to accommodate the alternative routing.

Residents whose homes fall within the closed section will continue to have entry maintained under site supervision arrangements.

National Highways has confirmed the order takes effect from April 11, 2026 and continues until the scheme concludes by May 13, 2026.
