The event allowed guests to experience the charm of railway history through authentic steam-age sights and sounds. Bluebell Railway’s 2026 Spring Steam Gala showcased an extensive programme of heritage locomotive operations.

The heritage line provides steam-powered passenger services covering approximately 11 miles between Sheffield Park and East Grinstead.

The event spanned three days from March 20th to March 22nd, treating attendees to a dense schedule of steam-powered operations that captured the essence of rail travel during its classic period.

BR Standard Class 4MT No. 75069, made available through the Severn Valley Railway and the 75069 Fund, operated alongside Bluebell Railway’s resident engines 73082 Camelot and 34059 Sir Archibald Sinclair.

The W8 Freshwater, a historic Isle of Wight tank engine, appeared at the gala following its restoration.

The railway additionally runs distinctive services such as the Golden Arrow Pullman dining train and themed evenings including Fish and Chip and Rail Ale experiences.

On Tripadvisor, Mike G noted that the trains travel through attractive Sussex countryside.

Martin N described it as a fantastic little railway with 10 miles of track through lovely scenery, adding that the stations are immaculate and dressed to reflect the time period of steam.
