Another emergency at coastal leisure facility within days

Fire crews responded to reports of a blaze at a sports facility, marking the second emergency at the location within seven days.

East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service reported that its personnel attended the King Alfred Leisure Centre on Kingsway in Hove on the morning of March 26.

A service representative stated that the call came in at 10.01am on March 26 regarding the Kingsway property.

Firefighters were alerted to reports of a fire and the facility was being cleared of occupants.

Two appliances travelled to the location and deployed two sets of breathing equipment alongside a hose reel nozzle.

No casualties were reported.

In a statement released at 10.45am, firefighters confirmed they had inspected the premises and the fire had been extinguished.

The call-out marks the second time in a week that emergency services have attended the leisure centre, following a fire alert last Friday.

During the previous week’s incident, the centre was evacuated while investigators later established the fire was unintentional and originated in a compact workshop storage section of the structure.

Recently submitted proposals seek permission to demolish the King Alfred complex and construct a replacement with a price tag of £65 million.
