Council issues eviction notice after travellers set up camp near leisure centre

Published on

A group of four caravans has set up an illegal camp beside a recreation facility in Shoreham.

The unauthorised settlement has appeared close to the Wadurs leisure complex in the town.

Representatives from West Sussex County Council have acknowledged awareness of the situation, confirming the camp was established without permission and that Sussex Police are keeping watch over the location.

The council has issued a formal notice requiring the occupants to leave, with legal action promised if the land is not vacated.

The encampment is situated in the vicinity of Wadurs in Shoreham.

A council representative stated that four unauthorised caravans have arrived near Kingston Broadway in Shoreham-by-Sea, with the council observing the situation alongside Sussex Police and Adur and Worthing Council. A directive to vacate has been delivered and enforcement action through the courts will follow.

The Argus has reached out to Sussex Police for a response.

In this region, West Sussex County Council holds primary responsibility for managing unauthorised camps, with police providing assistance to the local authority.

Earlier in 2025, the council issued departure notices after more than 25 vehicles established an unlawful camp at Adur Recreation Ground in Shoreham.
