Properties of historical significance in a district of the city will soon receive fresh coats of paint following the development of a matching new colour.

Produced by Crown, the fresh shade called Brunswick Cream bears close resemblance to the original tone used on buildings in Brunswick Square and Terrace, which had been discontinued, and will enable the scheduled repainting work to proceed as anticipated this year.

Homeowners occupying properties in this district are obligated to redecorate their exteriors during the period spanning April 1 through to October 31 this year, with the restriction linked to climatic conditions.

This stems from requirements established under the Hove Borough Council Act 1976, which mandates that the facades of all structures forming part of the original Brunswick Estate remain unchanged in character and receive fresh paint every half-decade.

The council has confirmed that the repainting schedule will revert to its former five-year cycle, having temporarily operated on a six-year timetable throughout the coronavirus outbreak.

This choice follows recommendations from the paint producer, accounting for the requirement to utilise water-based formulations and the coastal setting.

The paint may only be obtained from the local Crown decorating centre situated at Portland Business Park in Hove.
