A chip van featuring fries with ice cream is arriving in Brighton in what promoters are calling an unprecedented global event.
McCain, the potato company, is inviting members of the public to sample the unconventional pairing of warm french fries dipped in soft-serve ice cream at its Mr Chippy mobile outlet, which will distribute the snack without charge along the UK coastline.
The vehicle will be positioned at Brighton Beach close to the i360 attraction on March 28 and 29. Refreshments will be handed out complimentary between noon and 6pm, subject to availability.
Laura Koscik, McCain’s marketing director, said Mr Chippy offers the ideal treat for a cold yet sunny spring day at the beach. She explained that their Crispy French Fries dipped in a cone of creamy soft-serve is designed for sharing and sparking a love it or hate it debate. She noted that some people swear by this creamy and crispy combination while others wrinkle their nose, but that is half the fun. She added that they are all about making shared experiences even better with chips, so they hope people enjoy giving this unexpected viral combo a go.
The initiative has been timed to coincide with the commencement of British Summer Time and the Easter break.
The idea taps into the expanding sweet and salty trend, giving beach visitors the opportunity to taste the flavour combination.
Research conducted by McCain indicates that approximately one in four British adults (24.8 per cent) would be prepared to sample fries dipped in ice cream.
The refreshments will be provided complimentary while supplies persist.
