A 44-year-old man has been imprisoned after being convicted of sexually assaulting a young boy over an extended period.

David Newsom, residing in Regency Close, Uckfield, was taken into custody by officers on November 18, 2025, in connection with grave sexual crimes committed against a child between 2017 and 2025.

The boy was approximately ten years old when the offences commenced.

He faced charges the following day and was brought before Brighton Magistrates’ Court, where he was held on remand.

At Lewes Crown Court on January 7, Newsom admitted guilt to one count of rape, four charges of sexual assault on a child under 13, and three counts of sexual activity with a minor.

He remained in detention pending his sentencing hearing.

Newsom had worked for the South East Coast Ambulance Service throughout the period from 2016 to 2026.

The NHS ambulance trust confirmed that his employment has now been ended.

Detective Constable Nandi Luthuli, who supervised the case, stated that without the victim’s bravery in disclosing the abuse he had suffered, the behaviour could have persisted unchallenged.

The most recent incident occurred just one month prior to Newsom’s arrest, concluding approximately nine years of sexual offending.

Anyone who harms children will face thorough investigation and full accountability for their actions, regardless of circumstances.

Victims are encouraged to come forward, as there should be no stigma attached to reporting such crimes and silence should never be a necessity.

While the harm caused cannot be reversed, this matter has now reached its conclusion. Authorities hope the victim can proceed with recovery and rebuilding his life.
