The hit ITV crime series Grace returns to screens this weekend, and viewers familiar with Sussex may spot some familiar surroundings.
Adapted from the bestselling novels by Peter James, the programme has reached its sixth series, having delivered 16 episodes since its debut in 2021.
The show centres on Detective Superintendent Roy Grace, portrayed by John Simm, who remains troubled by his wife’s disappearance years earlier while tackling various criminal investigations.
Fellow cast member Richie Campbell also features in the drama, which is based in Brighton and Hove, with production taking place throughout Sussex including for the latest series.
Production crews working on Grace have been seen throughout the region in recent times, frequently filming in Brighton and the surrounding Sussex area.
Last May, ITV carried out filming for series six of Grace at Beach Green car park in Lancing.
At the same period, shooting also occurred at a residence on Bannings Vale in Saltdean.
Traffic controls were implemented along the road as film crews captured scenes of police vehicles pulling up at the property.
The following month, John Simm and Richie Campbell were photographed at Shoreham Port in Southwick.
In July, filming for series six was underway at a home in Cowley Drive, Brighton.
Shooting continued into August, when residents in Woodingdean were informed that a location would be converted into a currency exchange office for a bank robbery sequence.
A letter advised locals not to be concerned if they spotted officers, masked individuals or an escape vehicle.
Film crews were also visible at Sovereign House on Church Street in Brighton, where a Saxonhurst Building Society sign was erected on the building’s frontage, with filming equipment and lorries occupying Tichborne Street.
Having completed five series, Grace has already filmed at numerous venues over the years.
In 2024, leading actors John Simm and Richie Campbell were observed enjoying ice lollies to cool down during warm weather filming in Eaton Place, Kemp Town.
The popular detective drama set in the city has also captured scenes in West Street at the former Popworld premises, as well as throughout the city centre.
Additional filming locations across the series have comprised Brighton Pier, Brighton Marina, the Royal Pavilion, Shoreham Port, Southlands Hospital, Devil’s Dyke, Hove, Madeira Drive, Drusillas Zoo Park, Peacehaven and a country residence in Ovingdean.
The latest series of Grace launches this weekend, with the opening episode of series six airing on Sunday.
According to a preview in Radio Times, several months after ACC Cassian Pewe’s betrayal, the impact continues to weigh heavily on East Sussex Police as the team conducts an anti-corruption investigation while Roy struggles with whether to put faith in Cassian’s information regarding Sandy’s death and the danger to Bruno’s life. Meanwhile, his colleagues become involved in a mystery packed with concealed truths after a Brighton property developer reports his wife missing.
The opening episode of the new series will broadcast on ITV1 and ITVX at 8pm on Sunday, March 29.
