A property that once served as a hotel has been compelled to shut its doors after persistent anti-social behavior and incidents linked to drug activity.

The Firlanz Hotel on Las Cayes Terrace received a closure order after police connected the premises to criminal behavior, repeated disturbances, and drug misuse.

Eastbourne Police stated that the address, which now operates as a multi-occupancy residence, is being used in a manner inconsistent with its intended purpose.

Brighton Magistrates’ Court fully approved the closure order on March 25, and the building was sealed on the same day.

A sergeant from a neighborhood policing team at Sussex Police stated that residents in the nearby area had experienced months of anti-social and violent incidents. The sergeant expressed sincere thanks to those who reported the situation to authorities, noting the belief that the order would provide some relief for local residents from recent criminal activity and behavior in the area. The sergeant also offered sincere thanks to Eastbourne Borough Council for the key role, collaboration, and support the local authority provided in obtaining this closure order.

The premises will remain closed for three months.

In online responses to the news, Ben Williams expressed understanding but noted that this does not actually solve the problem, suggesting it simply moves the issue elsewhere.

Richard Westgate expressed approval of the police action.

Rachel Westgate lamented that it is a shame, noting that these establishments used to be lovely bed and breakfasts and guesthouses but have now become complete disasters.
