A fresh parking scheme is set to launch in Seaford, with locals invited to pick up no-cost permits.
Seaford Town Council is providing complimentary parking permits to homes in the BN25 postcode zone at South Hill Barn during a twelve-month paid parking pilot programme.
The initiative is slated to begin in late April 2026.
A council representative stated that the scheme intends to improve parking facilities ahead of the busy summer season, cutting congestion, protecting the countryside, and delivering a better experience for residents and visitors alike.
Permits are obtainable from Seaford Tourist Information Centre on Church Street.
The centre opens Monday to Friday between 9am and 4pm.
Those applying must supply evidence of their home address, photographic ID, and their car’s registration number, as permits are connected to particular vehicles.
Households may receive as many as three permits.
The pilot runs through the whole financial year, finishing in March 2027.
Seaford Town Council will assess the scheme near the end of the trial and present the findings to the full council.
No choice about whether the programme continues will be made until the review has concluded.
Parking payment terminals will be fitted once planning approval is granted.
Once installed and tested, the charge collection arrangement will start functioning.
The car park will be card-only with no cash accepted.
Those not qualifying for free permits must settle the standard parking charge.
Coaches may still use the site but will incur a higher tariff, with personnel on duty to ensure vehicles are parked safely.
Council members stress that the trial focuses on boosting vehicle turnover, bettering access, ensuring safety, and increasing visitor contentment rather than raising money.
The scheme also aims to protect the Seaford Head Estate countryside, which the council owns and looks after.
The free permit applies solely to South Hill Barn Car Park and offers no guarantee of finding a space.
