More Sussex towns are competing to become the UK’s first Town of Culture.
Lewes, Newhaven and Seaford have each submitted bids for the national title, which comes with £3 million in funding to deliver a major cultural programme.
Lewes District Council has confirmed its formal support for each application, extending encouragement and backing to the groups behind the bids.
They join others in Sussex including Eastbourne, Worthing and Hastings.
Lewes District Councillor Johnny Denis, cabinet member for arts, culture and tourism and leisure, said: “We are very excited to see three strong bids come forward from Lewes district.
“It shows the depth of cultural talent and the shared ambition we have across our communities.
