The broadcaster has broken his silence publicly for the first time since being let go by the state-owned broadcaster.
In his submitted statement, he indicated that the recent confirmation that his employment with the BBC has concluded has triggered widespread rumors and conjecture.
He stated that in response to this, the Metropolitan Police released a statement, which he can confirm relates to his case.
He explained that a complaint was lodged against him in 2016 regarding a historic sexual allegation. This became the subject of a police inquiry during which he fully cooperated and provided statements in 2018.
He noted that as the police have confirmed, a full dossier of evidence was forwarded to the Crown Prosecution Service, which determined that the threshold for bringing charges was not reached.
He mentioned that given that the original complaint concerns events from almost thirty years ago and the police inquiry was finalized seven years ago, he is hoping that the public and media will understand and respect his wish to make no further public comments about this matter.
He added that he wishes to offer his sincere thanks to everyone who has shown him support, his former colleagues, and his loyal audience, whom he deeply misses.
The breakfast programme host was abruptly taken off air by the broadcaster the previous week, before his dismissal over concerns about his private conduct was announced on Monday.
The 53-year-old delivered his last programme on Tuesday, March 24, concluding with a simple goodbye.
He was questioned by officers with cautions in July 2018.
No criminal proceedings were brought against him, and the case was closed due to inadequate evidence.
The Metropolitan Police does not identify people who are being investigated prior to any charges being brought.

A spokesperson indicated that in December 2016, the Met began an inquiry after receiving a referral from another police force.
The spokesperson explained that the investigation focused on accusations of serious sexual offences against a child. These were alleged to have taken place between 1997 and 2000.
The spokesperson noted that as part of this inquiry, a man in his forties at the time of questioning was questioned by police under caution in July 2018.
The spokesperson added that a comprehensive evidence file was sent to the Crown Prosecution Service, which determined that the required standard of proof was not met to pursue charges. Following this advice, the inquiry was wound up in May 2019.
