New ferry route to one of Sussex’s most popular beaches to launch tomorrow

Published on

A brand new ferry service to one of Sussex’s most popular beaches is set to launch tomorrow.

The route, operated by Chichester Harbour Charters, will link Hayling Island to West Wittering’s East Head Beach and will operate on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from Sparkes Marina.

The service will launch on April 3 and will run until October 25.

The ferry will take 20 minutes, with the first service departing Sparkes Marina at 9am.

The first service in the opposite direction will depart from East Head at 9.25am.

The last services will depart from the Marina and East Head at 6.10pm and 6.35pm respectively.

Prices will be £8 for a single trip or £12 for a return, while customers can also pay an extra £1 to bring a bicycle.

Passengers are advised to arrive 15 minutes before scheduled leaving times.

Chichester Harbour Charters first announced it would be operating the new service last month.

The company is founded and run by local skipper and instructor Patrick White, a Royal Yacht Association Advanced powerboat Coc and powerboat instructor.

The ferry will allow people to travel to East Head and the rest of West Wittering beach from the island without having use the nearby A27 road.

It will also provide a new way to explore the recently opened King Charles Coastal Path, which runs through Chichester Harbour from South Hayling to East Head.

East Head beach, referred to as “one of Sussex’s most popular beaches” by the National Trust, is a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest and is known for its wildlife and natural beauty.

The beach serves as an essential habitat for rare wildlife and vegetation including sand lizards and the Elephant Hawk moth.
