Brighton and Hove might come under green administration based on projections from a major political forecasting service ahead of the next General Election.

Current polling data from Nowcast, which forecasts electoral results across different areas, indicates the Green Party would win all parliamentary seats in Brighton and Hove if an election were held now.

The seats in question are Brighton Pavilion, where Sian Berry currently serves as the Green MP; Brighton, Kemptown and Peacehaven; and Hove and Portslade, represented by Labour MPs Chris Ward and Peter Kyle.

This forecast comes at a time when the Green Party is seeing substantial increases in support nationwide.

The party had more than 216,000 members by March 2026, representing growth of more than 300 percent from the 53,000 recorded in December 2023.

Experts have linked the party’s success to several factors, including its policies addressing wealth inequality, public services, and environmental matters, alongside leader Zack Polanski, who took up the role in September 2025.

Nevertheless, some local residents disagreed with these polling figures and voiced concerns about the party gaining full control of Brighton and Hove.

Several individuals mentioned the period when the Greens previously ran Brighton and Hove City Council.

Felicity Wingfield questioned whether the party had left behind debt from their previous time in control.

Jonny Topping expressed that he believed the city still harboured negative memories from when the Greens ran the council, suggesting they had damaged the city through the i360 project and an overemphasis on cycle lanes while neglecting other important matters, and stated this would not be forgotten.

However, other residents took a more favourable view and encouraged others to examine the party’s policies.

Laura pointed out that the party had just defeated Reform in Margate and suggested it would be beneficial for people to read their manifesto before making comments.

Kemp Town resident Miriam King expressed the view that the party receives considerable negative press.

Despite saying she was happy with the current Labour council, she felt their growing popularity came from people caring more about the environment.

Mark French was among residents expressing worry about Reform UK, indicating his preference for any party other than Reform.

The party has dominated discussion in recent months, having similarly seen a notable rise in support.

All council seats in Brighton and Hove are up for election on May 6, 2027. The next General Election is scheduled for August 2029.
