A car showroom could become a pilot flight training centre under new plans.
Crawley Borough Council planning officers have recommended approval for the conversion of Unit 4 on Fleming Way, at the Manor Royal Industrial Estate in Crawley, near to Gatwick Airport.
Under the plans, from TJ Aviation Ltd, the industrial unit would be overhauled to include a 621 square metre mezzanine floor with classrooms, briefing rooms and support spaces.
The venue would also feature four full flight simulators, with a new external plant building that would be constructed to power them.
A council planning report backed the scheme, stating it aligned with the town’s aerospace strengths.
The report said: “The proposed use is complementary to the main employment function of the Manor Royal business district and would support the business needs of Gatwick Airport.”
It added: “The provision of training facilities will strengthen local employment pathways, support skills development, and contribute to the region’s long-term economic resilience.”
Documents submitted on behalf of the applicant show the facility would operate around the clock for 24 hours a day, although peak activity would take place between 8am and 6pm.

The parking arrangements to the rear of the building would be reconfigured to provide an additional five spaces, increasing the total provision to 41.
The centre expects to host up to 12 staff and 29 daily visitors, with some airlines anticipated to provide private minibus services for their trainees.
Manor Royal Business District is the largest business park in the Gatwick Diamond area, with more than 600 businesses supporting around 30,000 jobs.
The plans will be considered by the borough council’s planning committee on April 21.
