Breaking: Brighton city centre roads shut after incident

An emergency situation has led to the closure of North Road in Brighton.

The area surrounding Helm Gallery has been sealed off by authorities.

Within the restricted zone, workers are observed removing scaffolding poles.

Jubilee Street remains shut as well, with officers preventing vehicles from passing in either direction.

Representatives from Sussex Police and East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service have been asked to provide additional details.

Authorities have since lifted the road closure and cleared the restricted area.

Official statement from police

Sussex Police has verified that officers responded following a collision between an ambulance and scaffolding structures.

Ambulance was empty at the time

A spokesperson for South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAM) has stated that the ambulance was traveling to an incident locally but was not transporting any patients.

The statement read: “We can confirm that one of our ambulances was involved in a single-vehicle collision involving scaffolding on North Road, Brighton shortly after 10:00hrs today (15 April).

“At the time of the collision, the ambulance was responding to a call in the area and was not carrying any patients. Other vehicles had been assigned to this incident and continued to the scene.

“Ambulance clinicians attended the collision to assess the crew who were discharged from our care on scene with no injuries reported.”

Statement from fire department

A representative for East Sussex Fire Rescue Service commented: “We were called at 10.02am on 15 April to reports of a single vehicle collision involving scaffolding on North Road, Brighton.

“Firefighters coordinated with the scaffolding company to free the vehicle and assist with ensuring the area was safe.”
