A27 and A24: Major congestion as roads shut

Published on

Here is this evening’s traffic update.

Major congestion is affecting both the A24 and A27 routes this evening.

A27 Shoreham

Traffic is backed up because of a previously disabled vehicle on the A27 westbound carriageway near the A283 Steyning Road junction in Steyning.

Significant delays on Shoreham Bypass

Travel times of approximately 16 minutes are being reported on Shoreham Bypass westbound, with congestion getting worse. The hold-up is between the A27 junction near Portslade and West Hove, and the A27 Upper Brighton Road section near Sompting Roundabout. Vehicles are moving at around ten miles per hour.

Six-minute delays on A27 Upper Brighton Road

Drivers are experiencing six-minute delays on A27 Upper Brighton Road in the eastbound direction between Third Avenue and Upper Brighton Road. The average speed is also ten miles per hour.

A24 Findon Bypass Findon

The A24 Findon By-pass southbound has reduced capacity with queuing traffic because of a collision on the A280 Long Furlong at Findon Roundabout in the construction zone. The situation is further complicated by the A280 Long Furlong being closed for maintenance work.

Heavy congestion remains

The traffic build-up continues to be substantial on both the A24 and A27.

Both situations have now been resolved.

That concludes this evening’s traffic report.
