Emergency crews seal cemetery grounds after fire

Officials have set up a police cordon around a building within Seaford Cemetery on Cradle Hill Road during the small hours.

Visitor startled to find officers present

A member of the public who visited the cemetery this morning spotted emergency services at approximately 8am.

According to this individual, they walked past the cemetery this morning and were surprised to find officers present. They expressed hope that everyone is safe.

Fire probe in progress

Sussex Police has confirmed officers are examining a blaze at a home on Alfriston Road in Seaford, which ignited shortly before 1am on April 17.

A spokesperson indicated that the fire was extinguished and an ongoing inquiry is being conducted by Sussex Police together with the fire and rescue service. No casualties are thought to have occurred. Anyone who saw the incident or has pertinent information, including CCTV or mobile phone footage, is requested to provide details via the online portal or telephone 101, quoting serial 30 of 17/04.

A representative for East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service stated that a fire investigation will take place following a fire close to Seaford Cemetery. East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service attended at 12.51am on April 17 after reports of a domestic fire on Alfriston Road. Crews deployed four breathing apparatus sets, a hose reel, a jet, and two thermal imaging devices. No injuries have been reported.
