Reform investigating allegations against Sussex candidate amid calls for removal

Reform UK is investigating posts made on a Sussex candidate’s Facebook page as calls have been made for him to be removed from the party.

Ricky Hodges announced in April that he would be standing for Reform in Tressell for the Hastings Borough Council election on May 7.

However, Mr Hodges is now being investigated by Reform in relation to social media posts shared on Facebook.

Helena Dollimore, MP for Hastings and Rye, said she was “absolutely horrified” by the allegations and has written to Nigel Farage calling for him to be removed from the party.

Reform UK is “looking into the allegations”, a spokesman confirmed.

Mr Hodges has been contacted for comment.

The alleged posts are no longer visible on social media.

On April 13, Mr Hodges said in a Facebook post: “I can now announce that I will be standing for Reform in the upcoming local election for Hastings Borough Council on May 7.

“I’m pleased to be standing in the Tressell ward which is where I grew up.

“I love this town and I hate seeing what has become of it over the years.

“We now have the partnership of the Greens and Jeremy Corbyn’s party running our council who spend all of the time, money and resources on far left agendas that are destroying our town’s heritage and culture.

“I’m fed up of having activists who put their ideology above the needs and concerns of locals being in charge of our council.”

It continues: “I promise to stand with you and work for you.

“Our children deserve a better future.”

Ms Dollimore has sent a letter to Reform UK leader Nigel Farage, calling for Mr Hodges to be “thrown out of the party”.

She said: “I am absolutely horrified to see the comments made online by your councillor candidate in Hastings, Ricky Hodges.

“These views go completely against the values of the people of Hastings and our country as a whole.

“It is extraordinary that Reform saw fit to stand such a candidate for public office.

“He must be dropped as a candidate and thrown out of your party.
