Firefighters from East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service remain at the scene of a blaze at a home with a thatched roof in the Pett Level district.

The incident was reported to emergency services just before 5am this morning.

The initial alarm was raised shortly after 5am, and four fire crews had arrived at the scene by 6am.

The property is located on Cliff End Lane, an unadopted road in Pett Level to the east of Hastings.

An ESFRS spokesperson said crews were summoned at 5.02am on April 18 following reports of a fire at a residential property with a thatched roof on Cliff End Lane in Pett Level.

By 5.50am, the response had grown to four fire engines and two fire officers. Firefighters are using three main water jets, pumping equipment, and fire hydrants to tackle the fire.

Fire officials have advised members of the public to stay away from the area and have instructed local residents to keep all windows and doors closed.

A communication from the incident read: Crews are currently attending a house fire on Cliff End Lane in Pett Level. Members of the public should avoid the area and residents are being asked to keep windows and doors closed. Further updates will follow.

East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service later advised:

Four fire engines, a supplementary fire officer, a water tanker, and a multi-purpose vehicle from Uckfield are now deployed at the scene. Fire crews are making encouraging progress.

There have been no reports of any casualties.

People are asked to continue avoiding the area and residents are reminded to keep windows and doors shut.

Cliff End Lane, where the fire originated, is a private road in Pett Level along the Sussex coastline east of Hastings.

East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service later indicated the situation was coming under control.

A fire service spokesperson stated: Crews have made good headway and the response is being scaled back to two fire engines.
