Bexhill specialist academy joins growing education trust

Published on

A dedicated alternative education facility has been integrated into a growing educational group.

The Bexhill-based centre caters to pupils in Years 9 to 11 who are unable to access conventional schooling. It has partnered with the London South East Academies Trust and will now operate under the East Sussex Skills Academy name.

The establishment offers vocational programmes accommodating up to 94 learners, aiming to restore young people’s connection with schooling.

Dr Sam Parrett CBE, who heads LSEAT, said they were delighted to welcome East Sussex Skills Academy into their Trust. Their objective is to guarantee that every pupil receives assistance to develop the skills, knowledge and confidence necessary to progress successfully into further education and employment. Given their proven track record of improving and delivering high-quality alternative education alongside their expertise in vocational training, they look forward to working closely with local further education colleges and businesses. These partnerships will allow them to enhance transition pathways for young people, directing them towards training, apprenticeship and job opportunities. As an organisation, they are committed to transforming lives through education. They value the support of East Sussex County Council, the Department for Education, and the former Trust—alongside the staff, families and students at East Sussex Skills Academy.

Previously managed by the Sabden Multi Academy Trust, the school obtained an academy order in February 2025.

Following a comprehensive assessment, the Department for Education chose LSEAT because of its experience in alternative provision and vocational training.

A development plan is already being rolled out at the academy, led by headteacher Matt Jacobs and his senior team with support from LSEAT specialists.

He said that with support from LSEAT and their community partners, they are focusing on delivering rapid and sustainable improvement for their students—ensuring they obtain the quality education they require and deserve.
