Drivers warned of road closures and diversions on match days

Published on

A pair of highways will be shut for a maximum of eight hours on three separate match occasions.

Brighton and Hove City Council announced the restrictions will impact Mill Road and Woollards Way during Brighton and Hove Albion fixtures at the American Express Community Stadium.

The closures are scheduled for April 21, 2026, May 9, 2026 and May 24, 2026.

Both routes will be inaccessible to passing traffic and will instead function as one-lane systems heading in a south-western orientation throughout the restriction periods.

On Mill Road, the single-direction arrangement will span the full width commencing from a location 20 metres south-west of the south-western kerbline of Waterhall Road and extending south-westwards for 1.480 metres.

On Woollards Way, the closure involves two portions: the entry ramp from Lewes Road onto Woollards Way for approximately 20 metres, plus the underpass travelling eastbound from Lewes Road into Woollards Way for roughly 15 metres.

These arrangements will endure for up to eight hours on each fixture date.

Walking access along the closed stretches will remain available.

A replacement route for motor vehicles will be displayed through signage on each respective day.

Entry to Mill House and Patcham Mill, both situated on Mill Road, will be preserved via the temporary one-way arrangement.
