Extra funding will be channelled towards supporting children with special educational needs and disabilities.

The MP for Hastings, Rye and the surrounding villages has given backing to an £8 million grant from the Labour administration to create additional specialist places for SEND pupils across schools in East Sussex.

This financial package forms part of a UK-wide strategy designed to enable more children to be taught in ordinary classroom environments.

The parliamentarian commented that parents should not have to fight to obtain good quality schooling for their youngsters within their own neighbourhoods. She explained that she has listened to SEND families across Hastings, Rye and the villages and recognises how vital this matter is. The £8 million delivers tangible advancement. Better specialist facilities in local schools, increased classroom support, and a promise from the Labour Government that every child can thrive and progress.

This fresh injection of funds builds on Labour’s major SEND changes and signifies significant steps towards eradicating the postcode lottery of SEND assistance that exists between regions.

Councils will be required to adopt inclusive methods and develop specialist capacities within ordinary schools.

Specialist establishments will still accommodate pupils with the most severe complex needs.

The MP championed SEND families by distributing a survey to local parents and conveying their situations directly to education ministers.
