Herd of cows found blocking trail have now mysteriously vanished

Published on

A herd of cows blocked a popular cycle path after wandering onto it.

The animals were spotted on the Cuckoo Trail between Horam and Hellingly in East Sussex on Sunday sparking a flurry of comments from locals on social media.

The Cuckoo Trail is a long-distance route for walkers and cyclists on the track bed of a disused railway linking Polegate and Eridge, where the last passenger train ran in September 1968.

Bianca Giles posted a photo of the herd on Facebook with the caption: ‘Cows loose on the Cuckoo Trail… if anyone knows whose they might be?’

Sophy Medcraft said: “What a great Sunday shindig, living their best life!

“They will prune the foliage.”

Giles later posted an update showing the cows in the trees.

She said: “They are hiding.

“Some bluebells might have been harmed in the making of this.”

Mark Butty joked: “They need to sort their camouflage out!”

Jane Martuo said: “Glad there’s still some dairy industry left in East Sussex!”

On Monday morning, attempts to locate the herd were unsuccessful.

Lucy Holt said she tried to find the herd on Monday morning and raised the alarm that they might have moved on.

She said: “It’s evident they didn’t go very far up or down it, and we think they are in the scrubby bit next to Coxlow but if anyone happens to see them, please let me know.
