A runner taking part in a Brighton event has gathered close to £1,800 for a charity supporting people affected by a rare neurological condition.

Marielle Baylis completed the Brighton 10km course in one hour to raise funds for PSPA, a charity that has supported her mother Diane after she was diagnosed with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP) in 2022.

PSP is an uncommon illness affecting roughly 10,000 people in the UK, causing problems with mobility, speech, and vision.

Before their mother’s diagnosis, the family had no awareness of PSP, which made an already challenging situation even more difficult as they tried to comprehend what lay ahead for her.

Following Diane’s diagnosis, the family discovered the UK-based charity PSPA, which offered them advice and support during a difficult period.

Marielle, who handles social media work professionally, later promoted the organisation by creating digital content but felt she wanted to offer additional help.

She crossed the finish line on April 12, having amassed £1,760.
