A man is in a life-threatening condition after a crash which shut an A-road for hours.

Yesterday afternoon, April 21, emergency services were called to a collision involving a car and a motorcycle on the A272 in Newick.

Sussex Police officers and South East Coast Ambulance Service crews were in attendance, alongside Air Ambulance Charity Kent, Surrey, Sussex.

The road was shut both ways between Harmers Hill and High Street for several hours while emergency crews worked.

Police have now said that the driver of the motorbike was taken to hospital in a “life-threatening condition”.

A spokeswoman for the force said: “Emergency services responded to a collision between a car and a motorcycle in High Street, Newick at around 1.10pm on Tuesday (21 April).

“The driver of the motorcycle, a 60-year-old man from Uckfield, has been taken to hospital in a life threatening condition.

“The road was closed in both directions with diversions in place while services worked at the scene.

“As police work to understand the circumstances of the collision, we are asking anyone who witnessed what happened, or who has dash cam footage to come forward.

“You can contact police by emailing collision.appeal@sussex.police.uk, or by calling 101, quoting reference 661 of 21/04.
