A “stunning” Sussex beach has been named one of the country’s best dog-friendly places to visit.

Country Living has shared its picks of the best dog-friendly beaches you can visit in the UK.

It said: “No one appreciates the beach as much as a dog, and to watch your four-legged friend canter over the sands and frolic in the sea is to witness pure, unbridled joy.

“To help you decide where to take your dog on holiday next, we’ve selected dog-friendly beaches across the UK, which include powder-soft sand, miles of space and lovely places to stay nearby.”

Beaches from all over the UK were picked out on the list by Country Living, including the popular Camber Sands, near Rye, in East Sussex.

Camber Sands is described as a “stunning stretch of sandy beach” that is home to the only sand dune system in East Sussex.

The sand dune provides a natural habitat to many animals and plants.

It is the “perfect get-away with unspoilt views of sand and sea stretching for miles”, the Visit 1066 Country website says.

Country Living writes: “This incredible sweep of sand and shingle beach near Rye and the Kent border welcomes dogs all year round.

“An amazing eight kilometres in length and home to one of the longest sand dune systems on the south coast, it’s also popular with kitesurfers, windsurfer and sailors.

“There’s a fair number of facilities here, including foot showers, bucket-and-spade shops, cafés, restaurants and a fresh fish stalls.

“While dogs are allowed on the beach year-round, they are not permitted in zoned areas between May and September.”

The publisher notes that the adults-only Gallivant hotel is the perfect nearby spot to stay, with dog-friendly rooms, bar and sitting room.

It adds: “The food and drink at the hotel is worth the trip alone, with the likes of Chalk Stream trout and wild garlic orzotto with local asparagus, accompanied by English wines.”

Camber Sands was not the only beach to make the list, with West Wittering Beach in West Sussex also picked out.

It was described as “one of the wildest and most beautiful beaches” to make the list and a “hotspot for dog owners”.

Country Living adds: “The beach is wide and shallow, making it a great spot for dogs to run into the sea, especially at low tide.

“There are some restrictions during the busy summer months, but dogs are still welcome in designated areas.”
