Trespassers have been reported on the railway between Lewes and Haywards Heath, causing delays.

What has happened?

Trespassers have been reported between Haywards Heath and Lewes and trains are unable to run between these stations until further notice, Southern said.

Both lines between Lewes and Brighton are also blocked and services are unable to run between these stations until further notice.

Services suspended

The following services are suspended, in either direction, until further notice:

Between London Victoria and Eastbourne

Between London Bridge and Eastbourne

The following services will run to an amended schedule:

Between London Victoria and Ore will now run via Brighton/Lewes

If you are travelling to or from Plumpton or Cooksbridge:

There will be no train service, in either direction, until further notice

Please press the green button on the help point to speak with a member of staff for assistance with onward travel

Disruption until 7.30pm

Disruption to services is currently expected until 7.30pm.

Regency 28 for Brighton (St Peter’s Church), Moulsecoomb (Brighton University), Falmer, Lewes (Post Office / Law Courts), Polegate, and Eastbourne

Regency 29, 29A, 29B, 29X between Brighton (St Peter’s Church), Moulsecoomb (Brighton University), Falmer, Lewes (Post Office / Law Courts), Uckfield, Crowborough, Eridge, and Tunbridge Wells

50 between Brighton and London Road

Travel update

If you are travelling to or from Plumpton or Cooksbridge: There will be no train service, in either direction, until further notice.

If you are travelling between Seaford and Lewes/ Brighton: Trains will begin running between these stations shortly. Please allow an additional 30 minutes for your journey.

If you are travelling towards Gatwick Airport, from the East Coast: Your journey will take longer than usual to complete and some trains may be cancelled or delayed

Southern is now working to return trains to schedule after and earlier trespass incident.

If you are travelling towards Gatwick Airport, from the East Coast: – Your journey will take longer than usual to complete and some trains may be cancelled or delayed – Please check your journey before you travel and allow extra time to reach the airport in time for your flight

Disruption until 10.30pm

Southern now expects disruption to continue until 10.30pm.

Latest update

A spokesperson for Southern said: “Lines have now reopened following a trespass incident in the Cooksbridge area. However, whilst service recovers, trains running between Lewes and Haywards Heath may be delayed, revised or cancelled.

“Disruption is expected until 22:30.”
