Statement from fire and rescue

A spokesman for West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were called at 3am on Saturday 25 April to reports of a fire involving a property off Southdowns Way in Haywards Heath.

“Joint Fire Control mobilised six fire engines to the scene together with a water carrier and aerial ladder platform. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the fire using three high pressure hose reel and three jets.

“Firefighters remain on scene this morning and are continuing to dampen down the area impacted by fire.”

Road remains closed

The road remains closed and the response has been scaled up to ten engines.

⚠️⚠️⚠️ We currently have 10 fire engines in attendance. Residents living nearby should remain indoors with their doors and windows closed while the fire is brought under control. Please avoid the area for the time being to allow firefighters to work safely. ⚠️⚠️⚠️

Southdowns Park has re-opened has re-opened both ways.
