Community members expressed worry following the arrest of an individual by officers on suspicion of murder in connection with a knife attack that resulted in one fatality and another person sustaining serious wounds.

Police cordons blocked access to the Moon’s Lodge building on Regency Square in Brighton from the early morning hours of Sunday, with multiple officers deployed throughout the area.

Throughout the day, forensic experts were observed going in and out of the premises, which locals described as a residential facility.

A Sussex Police representative said emergency services were called out shortly after 2am on Sunday, April 26 after receiving reports of a fight inside a property on Regency Square.

Two men were found with injuries from a bladed weapon, and a man aged between 30 and 40 was taken to hospital in a serious condition.

The second man, aged 37, was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later. His next of kin have been informed and our thoughts go out to them.

Officers detained a 26-year-old man without a fixed address at a nearby address on suspicion of murder, unlawful wounding with intent, and possession of a Class A controlled drug with intent to supply.

He remains in custody at this time.

One resident of the square said emergency and medical vehicles arrive here regularly. Upon seeing the cordon, she wondered what had occurred now.

Chief Superintendent Adam Hays from Brighton stated this incident has had devastating consequences, resulting in one man’s death and leaving another with life-changing injuries.

There is no indication of any wider threat to the public, and a thorough investigation is underway to establish the full circumstances.
