A triple-handed confrontation resulted in one fatality and severe injuries to another individual, prompting officers to make an arrest.

Officers have established a restricted perimeter near Moon Lodge in Regency Square, Brighton from the early hours, maintaining a notable law enforcement presence throughout the area.

Sussex Police reported that emergency responders attended at around 2.10am on Sunday, 26 April after receiving reports of a physical dispute taking place inside a property on Regency Square.

Two men received blade injuries, with a man aged between 30 and 39 taken to medical facility where his condition was assessed as life-threatening.

The second casualty, a 37-year-old, was pronounced deceased at the location shortly after arrival. His next of kin have been informed, and officers have extended their sympathies.

Meanwhile, law enforcement officers detained a 26-year-old man with no fixed abode in the vicinity on suspicion of murder, unlawful wounding with intent, and holding a Class A drug with the purpose of supply.

He remains in custody.

Chief Superintendent Adam Hays commented that the matter produced devastating consequences, claiming one life and inflicting serious harm on another.

There is no evidence of any wider risk to the public, and detectives are actively working to establish the full circumstances.

An increased security operation will persist in Regency Square and nearby streets.

The force remains resolute in tackling knife-related criminality and will respond swiftly and decisively against those who perpetrate violent acts in Brighton.
