A white dove-like bird photographed mid-flight has delighted crowds with what observers have likened to a celestial presence.

The image was captured by Robb Banks along Kings Esplanade on the Hove foreshore, portraying the pale creature in what appears as a transcendent moment as it soared towards the sunlight.

Mr Banks explained that groups of pigeons regularly gather at this spot, with one specimen distinguished by its white plumage, and that he finds himself repeatedly drawn to capture it on camera. The bird tends to be shy and always departs rapidly, though on this occasion its trajectory directly into the sun gave it an angelic quality.
