The Telegraph has labeled this location as the “prettiest town” in the United Kingdom, describing it as a “hip and historic” market town with proximity to the South Downs National Park.
In May 2025, The Guardian reported that Lewes also ranks among the happiest communities in Britain to reside in.
The rankings considered multiple criteria, such as availability of green spaces and parks, accessibility to general practitioners, proximity to hospitals, pharmacies and dental services, air quality standards, internet connectivity, public transportation options, crime rates, and additional factors.
