A new plan aims to cut residential energy bills while boosting clean electricity generation.

Labour MP for East Worthing and Shoreham, Tom Rutland, is backing measures introduced by the Energy Secretary to help Britain move towards more affordable and green energy sources.

The policy includes a major expansion of solar installations and wind generators on former commercial and industrial sites, along with changes to planning rules designed to speed up connections to the electricity network and infrastructure upgrades.

The parliamentarian said his Labour government would always stand by people, stepping in during difficult times. He noted this could mean immediate steps like bringing down energy charges and capping rail fares, or making long-term choices that would keep costs permanently lower. He expressed satisfaction at supporting these new measures that would progress clean energy goals and protect family budgets going forward.

The initiative also seeks to make it simpler for renters, those living in apartments, and households without dedicated off-street parking to fit solar modules, heat pumps, and electric car charging points.

These steps form part of a broader effort to lower everyday expenses and build lasting energy self-sufficiency.
