At a Brighton independent school, over one-third of all GCSE entries received the highest possible grade.

Roedean School recorded more than a third of its results at grade 9 this year, with three-quarters of all grades reaching 7 or above.

One-fifth of the student cohort achieved exclusively top-tier grades, with three learners securing straight 9s across all subjects. Niamh Green, the headteacher, highlighted the students’ remarkable dedication, noting they maintained diverse interests and activities alongside their rigorous academic preparation. Their commitment to sport, music, and personal passions in Year 11 contributed significantly to their exam success.

Two exceptional performers earned nine grade 9s, while another student achieved an impressive 11 top grades. Niamh Green emphasised the results demonstrated not just academic excellence, but also the confidence and resilience fostered at Roedean. Nineteen students secured at least six grade 9s, with 72 per cent of the year group obtaining at least one top grade. The headteacher expressed pride in the students’ accomplishments and confidence in their future potential.

The school also recognised two Ukrainian students who arrived in Year 8, having fled their homeland, and subsequently achieved outstanding results. In computer science, 91 per cent of grades fell within the 7-9 range, with dance students attaining a perfect 100 per cent at these levels. Across creative subjects including art, dance and drama, 92 per cent of results were grades 7-9, and pupils completed GCSEs in eight different languages.
