Folk duo Ninebarrow to perform at Ropetackle Arts Centre in Shoreham

A celebrated acoustic pairing who abandoned their regular employment to dedicate themselves to music entirely will give a concert in Shoreham later this year.

Ninebarrow, comprising Jon Whitley and Jay LaBouchardiere, will appear at Ropetackle Arts Centre on Saturday September 19 as part of their nationwide tour.

The artists from Dorset have garnered widespread recognition for their vocal harmonies and inventive interpretations of classic folk material, with BBC Radio 2 presenter Mark Radcliffe noting that their sound resembles two components of a single voice.

The duo are promoting their newest release, The Hour of the Blackbird, which presents fresh takes on 13 tracks from their existing catalogue.

The record incorporates vocal arrangements executed by Hart Voices from Hampshire and the Chantry Singers from Surrey, overseen by Roy Rashbrook, who serves with the choir at St Paul’s Cathedral.

The musicians’ ascent within the folk world commenced in 2016 when they departed from positions as an educator and medical practitioner to focus professionally on their musical careers.

Their achievement soon attracted acknowledgment through a BBC Radio 2 Folk Award nomination the following year.

Ninebarrow have additionally released three guidebooks featuring Dorset rambles and arrange walking breaks combined with live music.

Saturday’s show commences at 7.30pm, with admission from 7pm.
