A popular second-hand furniture outlet is set to shut permanently.

The British Heart Foundation has announced that its Furniture and Electrical Store on London Road in Brighton will cease operations next month after serving shoppers, donors and volunteers in the area for several years.

The charity revealed the outlet at 95-97 London Road will shut its doors on Saturday, September 19.

The furniture store originally launched on London Road in 2016.

The closure announcement follows recent advertising of the premises for lease, raising concerns about the shop’s future.

A Rightmove Commercial listing describes the location as a retail unit within Abacus House and invites potential tenants to view the space.

Mike Blackburn, regional manager at the British Heart Foundation, expressed gratitude to the Brighton community for its backing over the years.

He stated that the organisation wanted to offer heartfelt thanks to everyone in Brighton who had backed their BHF Home and Electrical shop throughout the years and assisted in generating essential funds for cardiovascular research. He confirmed the shop would close on Saturday the 19th of September. He noted that their shop had been far more than somewhere to buy goods. It had served as a cherished part of the local community, offering a space for people to volunteer their time, generously make donations and for their dedicated regular customers to purchase items. All of these people had contributed to making a genuine impact. He said they were extremely thankful for the support received and while their shop would be closing soon, they hoped everyone would continue supporting the British Heart Foundation by shopping, donating or volunteering at their other locations.

The outlet focused on second-hand and donated furniture, domestic items and electrical products, with inventory including seating, storage solutions, televisions and kitchen equipment.

It had become a well-known fixture of Brighton’s London Road shopping area, drawing customers seeking reasonably priced furniture while generating funds for the charity’s heart and circulatory disease research.

The British Heart Foundation will maintain operations at other Brighton locations following the closure, including its charity shop further along London Road.
