A parcel of approximately 15 acres of woodland situated alongside roads in the vicinity of Brighton is set to go under the hammer via National Highways.

The Portslade property will form part of the BTG Eddisons Property Auction scheduled for late August.

The 15-acre spread comprises nine separate parcels, with the sale forming part of a national programme to dispose of assets that has already generated over £1 million during June.

National Highways is currently identifying land that no longer serves any purpose for motorway or road enhancement initiatives.

BTG director Will Thompson observed that prospective purchasers could utilise the locations for environmental ventures or as enduring investments, with development potential subject to obtaining planning permission.

Mr Thompson indicated that significant interest is anticipated given the sites’ locations relative to key transport corridors, Brighton and the South Downs.

He noted that from community tree-planting schemes and habitat preservation to private leisure areas or ecological initiatives, disposing of these National Highways plots via auction represents an effective method of returning surplus land to productive purposes.

The woodland sections function as publicly accessible green spaces, with values spanning from £28,000 for the largest four-acre section down to £1,400.

All nine plots lie south of the A27, east of the A239 and adjacent to housing developments. They neighbour Benfield Valley Golf Course and Nature Reserve in an area bordering the South Downs.

National Highways manages the operation, upkeep and development of England’s motorway network and principal A-road infrastructure.
