A jazz and blues venue is due to launch in Brighton this autumn.
Deep Dive Jazz and Blues Bar will welcome its first customers on September 4, operating from premises on St.
George’s Road in the Kemp Town district.
The venture is being launched by the husband-and-wife partnership Lonnie and Nicky, who have spent the past six years operating Nanima Asian Kitchen.
The pair now intend to introduce Brighton’s first specialist jazz and blues establishment, contributing to the local evening economy.
Their existing kitchen operation will continue under the new name Nanima Kitchen Café, serving as the on-site food provider.
The venue will provide meals and drinks throughout daytime and evening hours across a six-day schedule.
Offerings will encompass baked goods produced in-house, sandwiches, light bites, changing daily main courses, and evening sharing plates.
A selection of bourbons, whiskies, cocktails and premium coffee will also be available.
Live performances are planned for three to four evenings weekly.
Additional programming includes guest disc jockeys, vinyl listening sessions, album launch celebrations and Swing dancing evenings.
Lonnie’s ambition to establish such a venue originated during his employment at the acclaimed Ain’t Nothin’ But the Blues establishment in the capital during the mid-1990s.
Three decades on, that aspiration is set to materialise.
Regular jazz programming will occupy Thursday evenings and Sunday afternoons, with the operators seeking to build a network of jazz offerings throughout Kemp Town.
Saturday programming will centre on all-day blues, incorporating vinyl playback, streaming services, solo piano and smaller live ensembles during evening hours.
Funky Fridays will feature visiting disc jockeys showcasing funk-influenced blues and jazz selections.
Remaining evenings will host open-mic events and similar gatherings.
During periods without scheduled performances, the venue intends to function as an inviting space for dining, drinking and socialising.
The establishment aims to establish itself as a neighbourhood favourite, prioritising quality service and musical programming.
