A fundraising effort is underway for a non-stop six-hour rollercoaster challenge at Blackpool Pleasure Beach.

Stuart Chappell, a resident of Uckfield, aims to complete the endurance ride on The Big One rollercoaster on Sunday, September 13, with proceeds benefiting the Teenage Cancer Trust.

Chappell expressed his desire to generate maximum support for the organisation, stating that while he has no direct connection to young cancer patients, the loss of his father to the disease had a profound impact.

He added that the experience must be exponentially more devastating for parents confronting such a diagnosis in their children.

Earlier this year, his younger brother Ian died unexpectedly, prompting Chappell to dedicate this challenge to his memory, noting Ian’s consistent encouragement of his previous fundraising activities.

The Big One rollercoaster boasts a 235-foot vertical descent and attains velocities reaching 80 miles per hour along its one-mile circuit.

Now aged 53, Chappell has accumulated approximately £25,000 for the Teenage Cancer Trust over the past decade through annual fundraising initiatives.

His commitment was previously recognised when the charity honoured him with its Legend of the Year accolade.

The Teenage Cancer Trust confirmed this marks the first occasion on which someone has undertaken a rollercoaster endurance event to generate funds for the organisation.

Representatives noted that the challenge resonates with the young patients under their care, many of whom have expressed enjoyment of theme park visits.
