Residents throughout the Lewes district have been advised to verify their electoral registration information.

The request forms part of the yearly canvass procedure, which verifies that electoral records remain current and precise in preparation for upcoming votes.

Ian Fitzpatrick, electoral registration officer for Lewes District Council, stated that residents should watch for correspondence from the local authority.

The annual canvass serves to confirm that electoral register details for each property are correct and current.

Following the instructions provided in communications would ensure individuals retain their voting entitlement for future elections.

The timing of this reminder coincides with the establishment of a new unitary authority for East Sussex, set to assume the functions currently performed by Lewes District Council, East Sussex County Council and additional district and borough councils from April 2027.

Ballots for the newly created authority are scheduled for May 2026.

Jackie Killeen, director of electoral administration and regulation, emphasised the importance of ensuring all eligible individuals can participate in the electoral process.

She encouraged residents to monitor communications from their council regarding this year’s canvass.
