A Tesco Extra outlet in Worthing has resumed normal trading after experiencing an electrical failure that forced an evacuation.

The West Durrington branch, located on Fulbeck Way, was cleared of shoppers on Saturday evening when the power supply was lost to the premises.

Both the main store and its adjacent fuel station suffered the outage.

The supermarket remained shut throughout Sunday morning while technical teams addressed the supply issue.

Home delivery services and Click and Collect facilities were also disrupted as a result of the incident.

A company representative indicated that specialist engineers were on site working to reinstate electricity and permit a safe reopening.

Earlier guidance on the retailer’s online platform had suggested an 11am reopening, though this timeline proved inaccurate.

By mid-afternoon on Sunday, the retailer confirmed that operations had returned to normal.

The petrol station operation had similarly been restored.

National Grid directed any questions regarding the broader outage to UK Power Networks, the electricity distribution network operator responsible for the local area.

The electricity provider has been approached for additional information.

The reason for the power cut and how many properties in the surrounding area were affected remained unconfirmed as of Sunday afternoon.

The store reopened at approximately 3.10pm and was trading as usual.
