Thousands attend Brighton Mod Weekender for four-day celebration of mod culture

The annual Mod Weekender drew thousands of visitors to Brighton’s coastline for a four-day celebration of mod culture.

This year’s gathering commenced on Thursday, August 27, and concluded on Sunday, August 30.

Photographs captured by Argus Camera Club contributor David G-h documented attendees as they travelled along the seaside promenade in their vehicles.

The event, staged by the organisation New Untouchables, has taken place in Brighton since 2005 and continues to draw participants from throughout Britain and international destinations.

The weekend programme features live musical performances, evening club events and various activities throughout the coastal city.

Performance spaces include the venues Komedia, Patterns and the Volks.

During daylight hours, Madeira Drive and the seafront provide settings for the weekend’s outdoor programming.

Brighton’s connection to the mod movement extends to the early 1960s, when confrontations between mods and rockers along the seafront generated widespread media coverage and established the city as a significant location in the history of British youth culture.

Those incidents later influenced aspects of the cult film Quadrophenia, with numerous sequences shot on location around Brighton’s seafront.
