A programme featuring more than 100 events is scheduled to take place throughout East Sussex to honour the national Older People’s Day and celebrate the ageing process.
The initiative forms part of the Full of Life Festival, which runs throughout September and October and encompasses a diverse range of activities designed for residents aged 50 and above.
Among the activities available are Nordic walking sessions, New Age Kurling, social coffee mornings, gardening drop-in sessions and practical cookery workshops.
Full details regarding the event schedule and additional festival information can be found on the East Sussex County Council website.
Councillor Mark Estcourt, who serves as East Sussex County Council’s lead member responsible for adult social care and health, expressed his enthusiasm for the annual programme.
He highlighted that the festival presents an ideal chance for individuals over 50 to explore unfamiliar activities, acquire new abilities, increase their physical activity levels and connect with fellow residents.
The varied schedule demonstrates the breadth of opportunities available throughout the county, providing consistent engagement and associated health advantages.
Given that numerous sessions require neither payment nor advance registration, the festival represents an accessible window for residents to discover fresh interests and expand their social circles.
The festival’s core objectives include recognising the valuable contributions made by older residents while simultaneously challenging societal perspectives on ageing.
The programme has been developed through partnership working between East Sussex County Council, the East Sussex Seniors Association and seven individual local senior forums.
