Sussex restaurant owner searches for missing family after Nepal floods

A business proprietor from Sussex is among thousands of individuals desperately seeking family members following catastrophic flash flooding in Nepal.

Pedro, who runs Momo Nepalese Street Food throughout East Sussex, published an announcement on social media platforms advising customers that operations would cease as he journeyed to Nepal.

According to his statement, four of his relatives had disappeared as a result of the devastating flash floods, specifically his mother, his wife, his brother, and his uncle.

During this profoundly challenging period, his family required his presence, and he intended to travel to Nepal to provide assistance in any capacity possible.

Consequently, all reservations would need to be cancelled for the forthcoming fortnight, with sincere apologies extended to all those who had made bookings.

He acknowledged that contacting everyone individually before departure might prove impossible, requesting patience and understanding from customers during this extremely difficult time.

The flash floods and subsequent mudslide struck the Rusuwa region during the early hours of Wednesday, August 26, located just north of Nepal’s capital city Kathmandu.

By Monday, August 31, the official death count had exceeded 900, while 4,247 individuals remained unaccounted for, including 592 international visitors.

Pramod Poudel, originally from Uckfield, was among British nationals who departed for Nepal at 8pm in an attempt to establish contact with his wife, parents, brother, and uncle.

During an interview, Mr Poudel described how he had viewed photographs of his former hometown, noting that nothing remained of the area where his family members had resided.

On Thursday, August 27, Prime Minister Andy Burnham announced that the United Kingdom had pledged £5 million in assistance to the Nepalese government to help address what he described as an extremely distressing and devastating situation.
