A local authority has reaffirmed its dedication to environmentally responsible economic development.

West Sussex County Council has given its approval to a revised series of Growth Deals that will channel funding into town centre regeneration, environmental improvements, transportation infrastructure and community amenities throughout the county until 2030.

Cllr Yvonne Gravely, who serves as cabinet member for economy and skills, has officially completed the signing of the refreshed agreements.

According to Cllr Gravely, the renewed Growth Deals demonstrate the council’s ongoing pledge to sustainable advancement throughout West Sussex extending to 2030.

She indicated that expansion encompasses more than statistical growth.

The focus extends to developing appealing town centres, more sustainable public areas, improved connectivity options and the amenities that enable communities to prosper.

The revised agreements, which apply to the districts of Adur, Arun, Chichester, Crawley, Horsham, Mid Sussex and Worthing, align with present economic objectives and development prospects.

Notable projects comprise enhancements to Chichester’s North and East Street, the Worthing Public Realm Improvements scheme and the reconstruction of the Martlets shopping centre in Burgess Hill.

The agreements additionally back sustainable transportation, with expenditure on pedestrian and cycling pathways, improvements to bus and rail services and enhanced flood protection measures in Shoreham.

Previous Growth Deals have already secured substantial investment from external sources for the area, facilitating the creation of new residential properties, employment opportunities, commercial space, town centre enhancements and sustainable transportation infrastructure.
