Hove’s Babble café serves Sunday roasts with sea views and local produce

Babble, a café on Hove’s promenade, opened in 2025 as part of the Hove Beach Park development.

Its location provides sea views, while the dining room has a relaxed, informal atmosphere and staff who check in with guests.

The café offers a Sunday roast menu from 12.30pm to 6pm, or until all dishes are sold out.

Four choices are available: chicken leg, rolled pork belly, topside beef and a vegetarian nut roast.

The selections change weekly to highlight local produce.

Meat is supplied by Barfields Butchers, while seasonal vegetables come from Shrub and Pitfield Veg.

The meat dishes are served with beef dripping and four crispy roast potatoes, while the nut roast is also available to diners following a vegan diet.

The two diners who reviewed the food ordered rolled pork belly and topside beef, together with a shared side of pigs in blankets.

The pork belly was served with seasonal vegetables including pumpkin, kale and cauliflower, while the vegetables supplied by Shrub Provisions and Pitfield Veg also included cabbage.

A Babble bloody Mary was also ordered.

The cocktail contains vodka, Bloody Bens Mix, tomato juice and pickled chilli juice.

Ten minutes after the order was placed, a waiter brought a large plate of olives and apologised for the wait.

The main courses followed five minutes later and included two large Yorkshire puddings.

The garlic-dusted Yorkshire puddings were provided complimentary by the chef.

The roast potatoes were described as crisp on the outside and soft and light inside, while the pigs in blankets were crisp and filling.

The diner who selected the beef described it as tender and tasty.

Despite a lifelong dislike of roast potatoes, that diner ate all three served with the meal.

The pork belly was also praised for its flavour and texture.

Portion sizes were considered substantial, prompting the suggestion that a side dish could be shared between diners.

For dessert, both diners ordered the lemon meringue trifle, which combined a lemon filling with soft sponge and a light layer of cream.

Babble’s general manager, Dariush Tamadon-Nejad, said the venue offers sustainable dishes, cocktails, carefully prepared coffee, hospitality and beachside views on the shore of Hove Beach.

The café has been described as relaxed, casual and family-friendly, with a varied Sunday menu that also includes burgers and fish and chips.

Both burgers can be prepared without gluten, and staff can discuss individual allergy requirements with customers.

The roast dishes are priced individually.

The vegetarian option costs £19, while the beef is the most expensive at £24.

A children’s roast meal for diners under 15 costs £10, and the Sunday children’s menu is limited to the roast options.

The wider menu also includes a vegan roast.
