Seaside restaurant blaze triggers evacuation of staff and diners

Published on

An appliance in a kitchen sparked a blaze at a dining establishment, leading to everyone being asked to leave and emergency crews being called out.

The occurrence took place at The Beach Deck on Royal Parade in Eastbourne on July 8, 2026 at 9.55 in the morning.

East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service attended the scene.

A representative from the fire service stated that all individuals were led out of the premises.

Crews equipped with respiratory protection tackled the flames using carbon dioxide equipment.

They subsequently deployed a thermal detection device to scan for any remaining warmth.

Three individuals required medical assistance at the location.

The fire, which was subsequently determined to be unintentional, damaged a modest section of approximately six to 10 square metres.

The situation also resulted in the closure of the adjacent Treasure Island Eastbourne venue, a nautical-themed attraction featuring a splash area, children’s play zone, 18-hole mini-golf course, and a souvenir store.

In an online post, the attraction announced that Treasure Island would be shut for the day on July 8 because of an occurrence at the premises above, located at The Beach Deck.

They expressed optimism about resuming operations the following day as usual.

Visitors were advised to monitor their social media platforms for further information.

They thanked guests for their patience and apologized for any disruption caused.

The Beach Deck operates between 8.30am and 9.30pm every day.

The establishment serves morning, midday, and evening meals, with table reservations accepted for interior seating while exterior tables are distributed according to arrival time.

Canine companions are welcome, with a dedicated menu for pets and allocated spaces both inside and outside for animals.

Emergency personnel in safety clothing were observed working behind restricted barriers along the promenade adjacent to the seaside venue.
