Mum prepares for Great Wall trek to support cancer charity

Published on

A mum is gearing up for the trek of a lifetime along the Great Wall of China.

Lyndsay Gardner from Rottingdean will take on the challenge this September to raise funds for breast cancer awareness charity CoppaFeel!

No stranger to adventure, Ms Gardner previously completed a 100km trek across the Sahara with the charity in 2022.

This time she is taking part in the trek alongside Giovanna Fletcher and a team of celebrity captains.

She said: “I wanted to do something that felt both meaningful and fun.

“CoppaFeel! does such important work, and this felt like a way to bring people together while raising money for a cause that affects so many families.”

CoppaFeel! focuses on promoting early breast cancer detection among young people.

To help reach her £4,000 fundraising target, Ms Gardner is hosting a 90s disco night at Saltdean Lido on Thursday, May 1.

The event promises classic hits, a lively dancefloor and a raffle with prizes donated by local businesses.

Every penny raised from ticket sales and the raffle will go directly to CoppaFeel!

Ms Gardner said: “We’ve already had an amazing response and sold a large number of tickets, but I’d love to see the room completely full on the night.

“The more people who come, the more we can raise.”

The disco forms part of Ms Gardner’s wider fundraising journey, which she has been documenting online.

Tickets for the 90s disco can be purchased at tinyurl.com/saltdean90.

Anyone unable to attend the event can support Ms Gardner’s fundraising efforts by donating at justgiving.com/page/lyndsay-treks-china.

Ms Gardner has also been sharing updates on her training and the challenge of balancing family life with preparations for the trek on her Instagram page @lyndsay.and.the.girls.

She said: “This is something completely outside my comfort zone, but that’s the point.

“If it helps even one person check their chest earlier or feel more aware, it’s worth every step.”

CoppaFeel! is a charity that works to raise awareness and educate young people about the importance of knowing their bodies and spotting early signs of breast cancer.
